Established in the early 1990s to meet rising electricity demand, the Ramat Hovav Power Plant was originally responsible for 11% of Israel Electric Corporation’s (IEC) total power generation before its privatization. Today, it stands as one of Israel’s largest natural gas-based power plants, with a generation capacity of 1,200 MW. Located in southern Israel, the plant plays a critical role in national electricity production, supplying power to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers. In December 2020, ownership of the plant was officially transferred from IEC to private investors.
